No, Naborly does not call personal references or previous landlords on your behalf.
Due to the limited ability to verify the identity of the person we’re speaking with, we do not call references. However, Applicants are required to provide contact details of previous landlords within the Application, allowing Landlords and Property Managers to carry out their due diligence and call any references directly to mitigate any potential risk.
How do we verify then?
At Naborly, we verify an Applicant's identity, employment, and income based on the documents the Applicant provides. We have found that the most reliable way to verify these things is to ask for documents and ensure that those documents meet specific criteria for verification.
To verify income: Naborly follows a very strict criteria to verify the income documents without having to contact references. Press HERE to learn what types of income documents we accept and the criteria we look for to verify an income source for you.
To verify previous addresses: Naborly compares the addresses provided by the Applicant to those available on their Equifax credit file. If we unverify an address, it means that address was not found on their credit file.
To help you contact references, you can find the reference contact details in the Application portion of the Report (usually on the 4th page).
